This is a story about a powerful partnership.  The Life Enrichment Center, a non-profit organization that works with Title I schools in Hampton Road to promote literacy, has been supporting efforts at John Tyler Elementary School since the beginning of the school year.  (The LEC also provides volunteers for Park View Elementary.)  Each week approximately 10 volunteers visit the school to do one-on-one literacy tutoring with first grade students.  The volunteers include police officers as well as retired educators and business people.  They work with the students in such areas as reading, sounds, matching words and writing.  Principal Heidi M. Lewis says the students are always happy and excited to work with their tutors. “  We have seen great improvement in their individual literacy skills,” she notes.  Recently PSET-TV visited John Tyler to see this volunteer effort at work.  What they do is vitally important to children.  Take a look!
